Thoughts on food.

My thoughts lately have been about unlabeled cloned meats and bacteria-eating viruses as food additives. I would like to get to the point that I am getting all my meat either from the field (hunting) or from local ranchers. There are suprisingly a few out there in my area. I recently joined a co-op and was surprised to find out that various members make their own soap for sale, sell eggs, sell meat... (I've been here over a year and had unsuccessfully tried to find people like this.

My ultimate goal is to eat as simply as possible. Provide my own meat (or buy it locally) and grow my own vegetables. (or join the nearest csa) I would like to get completely away from processed foods, but of course, it is much more difficult to do than talk about. I also recently found a website that talked about a 100 mile diet. That is, eating everything within a 100 mile radius from your house. The website talks about how far food has to travel to get to your store. It really got me thinking.

I also don't want to buy food made in a factory. If I can't grow it myself, or buy it from someone who doesn't add preservatives and drugs, and hormones to it, then I don't want it. And, I don't think it's enough to just buy something labeled "organic" or "all natural." I think the better thing to do is buy local. Labels can be deceiving. You can eat organic food but it be contaminated with genetically modified ingredients.

Goals-
Don't eat packaged or processed foods
Eat whole foods
Make my food at home

Pasta Drying Rack

I received as a christmas present this year, from my dear friends Ann and Ted- a pasta drying rack. The one I spoke of in a previous post. It is the greatest thing! Noodle making before was a chore, because I had to drape noodles all over the place and wait for hours for them to dry turning them over at least once. Now, I can make a triple batch of noodles and have them take up little space and watch them dry in a few hours.

Nick took a picture of the noodle stand the other day as I was finishing them up. Picture coming soon...

Thank you, Ann and Ted!!!

Happy New Year!
